Something that’s helped for me is to cut (carefully!) the large sprue surronding the delicate parts, before trying to cut them out. It seems to relieve the pressure.

When the plastic is weak, like the center of a ladder rung, I don't think there's not much one can do. With the A=M gondola ladders, one snap and the ladder split in half and with the PRS air lines, I've had them break into 2-3 sections with one clip. I've never tried them on the cats--they take great pride in using them on occasion!
