Hi Bob: Can you link the large flat can motor? I may be interested in some for my mini-fleet of S-12's. They run "okay"... but not quite what I really want for a switcher.
Speaking of knuckle busters: Lately we've had a rash of exciter issues on some of the Alco's. I had one a few weeks ago that would amp-up bigtime as soon as you went to 1 notch. I'm talking the amp meter PEGGED for about 1 second before it would start to descend to the about the 1000 amp range. (Note to non-railroaders, that's still WAY too many amps for 1 notch, ought to be about 200 amps.) I would try to have all the independent on before I ever cracked the throttle... and it would still lurch. Wild. Was VERY glad to BO it and have it sent north to our shops. I suggest mounting the pit on a piece of 2x4 for stability and mount the drive below that (20-20 hindsight). Otherwise, the bottom of the pit depresses under the weight of an S scale locomotive and causes binding.
