  David:

I tried to reply to your email and the reply bounced. The return w/failure
error had this to say:

"This Message was undeliverable due to the following reason:

Each of the following recipients was rejected by a remote mail server.
The reasons given by the server are included to help you determine why
  each recipient was rejected.

Host kc.rr.com doesn't support SMTP mail delivery."

The above was followed by your email address.

  Suggestion?

Has anyone tried converting the A-M S-12 to the prototypically correct AAR
Type A switcher trucks instead? I started mine several years ago, but it is now
bogged down due to physical constraints. DJE

  Hi Tom:

Yes, all of my AM S-12's have the low-speed worm installed. I ordered all
of them direct from AM and during the phone conversation, insured they were
to be DC w/low speed worm.

Once the engines break free and start to move... they can move along about
3-4 smph. That's fair... but not as good as my SHS SW/NW's. Seeing as my
little layout will be 90% - 95% switching, I want the best slow speed
  start/creep speeds as is practical.

Perhaps I should also disassemble the trucks/gear towers and make sure all
is free as possible/etc. Still can't help but feel that the motor doesn't
have quite enough torque to effect SHS-like low speed start ups.

  Thanks for some input.

You don't say if you have already installed, or got the loco with the
already installed, low speed worms. It's just one part (at each truck gear
tower) and the speed is reduced by half. I believe it is technically a
"worm," not a "worm gear." American Models sells them as

Low speed worm gear on shaft $4.00 Part # GBWSLS

One would buy them in pairs but I don't know if that's an each price or a
pair price. Contact American Models directly.
