That being said, SHABBONA RR is based on the portion of a real now-abandoned
Rock Island secondary line between Eldon and Keokuk, Iowa. I would probably
have called it "IOWA CENTRAL", with black and red locomotives, but I already
had a whole fleet lettered for SHABBONA.

Using a real railroad in a protolanced setting allows me some flexibility with
regards to rolling stock, trains, etc., but still adheres to the prototype as
far as freight operations.

Terminal District mimics Eldon, where two Rock Island lines crossed, in that
trains are made up here for the trip to Keokuk. Keokuk mimics, well, Keokuk
where outbound trains consist mainly of cars pulled local industries and the
KUD interchange.

A switch engine for the corn starch facility mimics the Rock Island, and the
classification yard, the large CB&Q yard here, even though it is a SHABBONA
facility. The KUD interchange is the destination and origin for cars to and
from "off layout" points. Outbound, these cars simply go back to Terminal
District for storage until they reappear on the KUD interchange as inbound.

I kept myself awake on many a lo-ong trip on Santa Fe and CC&P dreaming all of
this up, and now that it has materialized, I'm pleased to say it has so far met
my operating expectations

If you haven't hit the "Delete" key by this time, I'm
