Hi Dan!
Thanks for sharing your very insightful thoughts!
I think in my case I'm a mixture of 1 and a sub-point to 3... perhaps 3a?
I do enjoy building models to a point... but I do NOT want to just build and
build. I want to enjoy the models on an operating layout... which brings me
to sub-point 3a:
I am fascinated with prototype trains from my chosen era... BUT... I don't
just want to railfan them... I want to use them to switch, operate, and
otherwise emulate the activity of railroading "then".

Agreed!

Understood, and again, completely agree in regards to my tastes/approach.

Again, understood. In a roundabout way, I used those as a guideline for
creating my own KC&G paint schemes.
How well I've accomplished that will be up to others to decide for
themselves when they view my HO KC&G efforts from years ago. In my case
NOW, I'm simply trying to decide if I want to again pursue the KC&G as a
modeling avenue... or let its time pass and move on. Still inwardly
weighing the pros and cons.
> Just my 2 cents worth -- hope it is of some use to you.
Indeed it was. Thanks much for taking the time to type out your thoughts.
