True, the Kinsman kits are very basic and "generic" in the one-size-fits-all 
sense and the detail level.  They do not account for differences between 
prototypes in those aspects, but provide a platform for differing artwork on 
the car sides.  In that regard, any capable craftsman with a table saw and/or 
router should be able to produce the parts needed to make a true-to-scale model 
of the same construction.  However, the kits DO include cast bolsters, end 
beams, queenposts, brake cylinders, etc. which would have to be obtained 
elsewhere.  True, these parts can be scrounged up from various sources, but 
having them all present in one kit is an (albeit small) advantage.  Of course, 
in these modern days of high tech, all one needs is Google SketchUp (or any 
other 3D drafting program) and an account with a 3D printing company, and you 
can make details to the degree of detail you want, for any prototype, as long 
as you have the dimensional data.  If someone wants the details on old-school 
car assembly, there were numerous articles in MR, RMC, the NMRA Bulletin, and 
probably in various S scale mags, telling how to make your own parts and 
assemble them.  An article search from the Mobley Library should turn up 
several such articles.  Also, dimensional details of specific cars are best 
obtained from specific car plans, not generic kit plans.
