I have stopped counting my O scale locomotives, although I suppose I should do
an inventory against loss or to help my children dispose of them.
Suffice it to say that I need to think about just how many 44-tonners of
various manufacture I own, although I think it was at least sixteen the last
time I attempted that. Perhaps two or three HO locomotives picked up for no
good reason after I disposed of all I used to have, about the same
N scale (same reason or lack thereof), Bachmann G scale 45T, USTrains 44T
(guess why?), and an AML USRA live-steam 0-6-0 that really needs
a new home.
Now, in S scale, I have rather more locomotives than I'd planned on when I
started over two years ago, and much of that is Don Thompson and
his sales: two switchers from his sale last June, two more from his even-better
sale right now, for a total of eight SHS EMD's (twice what I'd thought
about), two SHS 2-8-0's, a BTS Ma&Pa kit to assemble when I see more daylight,
two Miller S-4's with Cascade drives, a PennModels 44T, and a
brass gas-electric. Oh, almost forgot the USRA 2-8-2 bought at S Fest last
weekend. I am trying to restrain myself from any more, and perhaps
will even try to dispose of a couple switchers when the sales are over and
prices return to more typical level. Oops, just remembered the American
models road diesels: one New Haven RS-3 (and supposed to get another in NYC
lightning stripe) an undec GP-9, and a U-25. This really has gotten
out of hand.
