I'm with Bob on this. I'm high rail,but I am using S-Helper sectional and 
flextrack to get that scale look. My rolling stock does not bounce through the 
switches like the AF swithes that can cause derailments at certain speeds. I 
may even be like Brooks and have scale couplers on my new stock as well. I'm 
happy where I am at with my club and home layout. I can run on both with no 
problems. I learn alot from the scale guys. I have a long way to go but i'm 
running trains

To continue, my thoughts are that the HI-rail folks with scale-like 
layouts can easily blend with many of the better scale layouts (likewise 
an ordinary hi-rail layout with AF track, stock Plasticville and green 
painted plywood is probably equal to some scale layouts that never seen 
to get off the ground). However when you add in the narrow gauge 
mixture, it's harder to blend in with those guys in most cases--they 
don't want to know hi-rail and I assume the opposite is also true. I've 
had AF guys come to visit and can't figure out why I don't have a AF 
coal loader to load my hoppers!
