Hello Ken,

I'm trying to model the cobblestone streets of Baltimore with the track -
American Models - in them. I created a channel around the track using styrene
strips for the curb. I then smoothed on a layer of lightweight spackle. I
then used four square brass rectangular rods glued together to press lightly
into the spacke (if you press too hard, the cobblestones go too deep and the
rods get spacke inside them. I used an old toothbrush periodically to clean
out the rods. It is very tedious work but if you work slowly and carefully,
you can create a cobblestone street - you get better with practice. I then
painted it using various colors out of spray cans as well as dry brushing.

I did this because I didn't like any of the textured surfaces that I found.
If/when I do it again, I might revisit commercially available pre-made products
as it is very tedious.

I forgot to mention that I first insured that the flangeways for clean. If you
clean them afterwards, you'll distort the cobblestones you just worked so hard
to make (ask me how I know this....)

Regards.

Paul Schilling

Subject: {S-Scale List} cobblestone

Hi folks, anyone out there done a cobblestone street? I have one photo from the
30's, the cobblestone looks to be a bit larger than bricks smooth from wear but
with more relief. I am considering some O scale brick material. Appreciate any
ideas.
