When I created a street, I looked for a chronology of paving, and didn't get
very far. I would love it if someone could post a general chronology. I know
that there would be tremendous variation, but when would you expect dirt,
paving stones, blacktop ... in urban, rural...

I just watched a movie set in the early 1930's, and the streets were blacktop,
but very rough - like an intermediate between loose gravel and modern asphalt
paving. I'm aiming for the late 1920's. I need an urban street surface, west
coast.
