I would disagree. The relative "explosion" of the 3-rail O operator over the
past 20 years and their demand for more scale appearing locomotives and rolling
stock has had a positive effect on the 2-rail O Scale world. So much so that
MTH offers some of their products in 2-rail scale and has conversion trucks
available for freight and passenger cars.
For the most part, they will no longer settle for a 736 Berksire painted up in
a different roadname any more.
Then of course, there's Weaver and Atlas O that also play on both sides of the
fence. I don't think either of these companies would be surviving tday as an O
Scale only manufacture.
Plus there is the growth in "O"'s secondary products, like structures, figures
and signals. All of which can be used in the O-Scale world, many times with
little or no modification.
New products in the American Flyer line, such as the U33C and Challengers, will
eventually be of benefit to S Scale.
Plus there's another thing I've noticed about the O Gaugers/Scalers. They love
to show their work. The OGR board has tons of images, available for the
PUBLIC to see, showing the good fun they're having with the hobby. There's a
lot of talent over there and sometimes, you don't even notice that third rail.
These guys are contributing to the growth of the multiple aspects of O without
even realizing it.
I've attempted to run a monthly photo thread on the OGR S Scale board and the
response was underwhelming. I eventually gave it up because it was becoming a
thread with just my photo's, I was running out of ideas and didn't want it to
be just about me. I still post photo's there as needed, however.
I've even snuck a few S Scale images onto the 3-Rail and Scenery boards over
there...
I dunno, must be something about S Gaugers/Scalers that they feel their work's
not worthy showing off to the general model railroading public.
