This (below) does bring to the forefront a strong point in favor of code 110
wheels... they really are the ONLY choice for those who run steam. It is no
big feat to change out diesel and freight car wheels... but even if code 88 OR
code 87 wheels were available for steam, it ain't no simple task. Luckily the
code 88 and 110 wheels will both operate on standard track/turnouts, so one
could run 110 on their steam locos and 88 on the rest.

However... brass steam maufacturers MIGHT be much more open to the request for
(factory made/installed) code 88 or code 87 wheels than are plastic
manufacturers. Couldn't hurt to ask...

  Hi guys --

I am joining Tom in not voting, but not for the same reasons. In my case,
I can and do run code 88 wheels, but I have literally hundreds of pieces of
rolling stock that would have to be changed out to make them all the same,
and I am NOT going to do that. I don’t have a single locomotive with code
88 wheels and being mostly brass steamers, I am NOT going to change that,
either. I DO run my trains, and at two feet away running a scale 30 mph,
you will never notice the width of the wheels, particularly with 65 year old
  eyes.

Were I starting from scratch in scale S, and were the steam locos available
with code 88 wheels, then I would go for the code 88 profile. I will let
you modern era guys fight it out on the poll...
