Same here, Alan. If I'm ever able to get myself a metal lathe of some sort...
one of high enough quality to do such work, I plan to make my own replacement,
code 88 'tires' for any steam engines I ever own. I am also spearheading the
revival of production of code 88 wheels for S scale from NWSL. Still no word
of progress on that project though...

  John,
I am one that would convert some of my stock to scale. most of my S-Helper
cars came with scale wheels for me to use. I'm thinking about my 2-8-0 that I
will change the coupler with the one that came with it so it will at least have
scale couplers, like brooks stoffer did.
                                         thanks,
                                                     Alan

  Alan,

Not a problem... I should have read the entire thread before replying anyway.
But my point is that I, as a scale modeler, do NOT want to see Jim's models
compromised in ANY way, shape fashion or form in an effort to cater to the AF
crowd... for in doing so it would detrack from the accuracy that we scale
modelers look for in Jom's models... which is the one thing that I, personally
see as their finest selling point. And, as some have already said... the AF
crowd is more than welcome to CONVERT scale to... infidelity (forl ack of a
better term) if they so choose. Ain't nuthin' holdin'em bacl from doing
that... except willingness.

  G'day!

    John,
The point I was trying to make is that everyone ( High rail and Scale need
some more modern type rolling stock and Motive power that we don't have. Look
to the future and dont dwell on the past Look past the SD-60 now available and
show me anSD70ACe. Thats what we need. Now back to my trains.
                                                            Thanks,
                                                                         Alan

No, Jim does not post on the S-Trains group... and why in the world should
he since he does NOT cater to them? Also, I don't understand you point about
how you think you hi-rail types need more help than the scale folks do...
because the VAST majority of what has long since been available in S is
AF/Hi-Rail compatable. So I don't know what you're griping about... and you
surely have less room to do so than us scale types considering how saturated
the market already is with hirail stuff.

Jim needs to just keep doing exactly as he now is... without compromise.
If you want hi-rail that bad... comvert it... or go scale only.

Does he post anything on the S-Trains yahoo group . I was wrong about the
limit on his runs. If his molds are that easy to make, he could do without all
the fine scale detail and work with us. There are alot of highrail people
begging for some new modern rolling stock. Just go over to the STST yahoo
group, and you will see where I am going. We need someone to step in and help,
And thats where Jim came in. Hope you understand my point.

Thanks,

      Alan,

I don't think you fully understand how Jim works. Jim does not limit his
runs as you appear to believe... he determines the size of it based on the
number of people who step up to the plate and PLACE ORDERS. If he does not get
an order from someone, a model will not be produced for them. If the AF folks
want one of his models, all they have to do is place a reserve order when he is
taking the reservations.

I was not comparing, I was just giving the lengtth of the American
Models condola. I like what Jim is doing but he needs to run more than what he
does per run. If he did the high rail guys I talk with all the time might give
him a shot .I know we would have o furnish our own wheels and couplers and make
miner adaption for the bolster plates, but there are some that would do that.
My opinion.
