Pieter and all, I'd like to clear the air a little as a member of the BoD and a moderator of the S Scale Sig Forum. I've been a member of this list for a long time and have (mostly) enjoyed the conversations and even the disagreements that have taken place here. I turned here when I first entered S seriously and have greatly shortened the learning curve by listening to good advice. On the whole, I think you and Bill have done a good job of herding the cats and making this a pleasant and sociable place to visit. We have no intention of trying to change or undermine what you've accomplished over the years. I for one would be heartbroken if there was a wholesale abandonment of this group. It serves a vital interest for S. Since this group is so good at what it does, we don't want to compete with success, but instead meet a need that is not being spoken to so well. As well as a flashy introduction by means of words, pictures, and videos to the wonderful world of S Scale, and a resource of all known active manufacturers and major suppliers, the seekers and newcomers to S need a place to go where they can get orderly and competent information and real-time guidance from those who have time-proven experience. Are we serious about this? You bet we are. We've worked very hard to organize things to be user friendly and easy to navigate. We've spent a lot of time trying to pick just the right "specialists" who can be trusted to give not just answers, but the reasons for those answers so the newcomer can solve their own problems. That's why we don't want to be known as a social group, although some of that can't help but happen among friends. We're not elitists belittling everyone elses enjoyment of the hobby. Everyone is welcome to join and will be accepted gladly. No one is beyond picking up something new, so it should be profitable to all, but keep in mind that the main emphasis is on promoting S Scale model railroading. If you, like us, are interested in expanding the positive exposure of S Scale to the rest of the model railroad universe, roll up your sleeves and come lend a hand. All of us know and enjoy S already, it's not about us, it's about them, those who would benefit from the advantages of S but think it has passed into history. Chris Borgmeyer and I are the moderators and Chris is the webmaster. While we both "sit at a computer all day", we both also have to make a living to feed our families. We can't ignore out employers to make a full-time job of running the forum. We'll need those who post to think of the audience we're trying to reach, and read and re-read their posts before hitting the enter key to help us reach our goal of making this Sig the most positive, friendly, family oriented site on the planet that we can be proud to recommend to anyone, including your children and grandchildren. I believe that's what Ed L. was trying to say when he mentioned working moderators. We won't compromise the goal, which frankly is different from the Lists goal. We don't own the Sig, we're only volunteer caretakers. It's your Sig and will ultimately be what you make it. Ed Kozlowsky Sanford, Maine
