I recall some modelers in HO cut apart the brass horn castings to reposition the horn bells with soldier. Not necessarily easy, but a solution none the less.

While this is plastic, it seems like this could be done in other materials.I gather from HO modelers that the nasty language level is fairly high during assembly, but it's workable- I've used some of the pieces myself.
