Just like the more scale offerings in O geared toward the operators didn't
attract modelers from other scales... There's a LOT of guys in 3-Rail O that
do quite excellent work, they just happen to not mind the third rail. And even
some of those have been migrating to 2-rail.
What we're talking about here is collateral advantage. Even if the new
American Flyer attracts 99% to the Flyer side and 1% to the scale side, we all
benefit.
It's more than just the trains.
Even more people in Flyer will increase the demand for structures and other
non-railroad items.
We seem to keep getting hung up on this "Builders Scale/Scratch-builders Scale"
nonsense. That's not going to draw new a lot of folks in nowadays. We should
finally bury that attitude and put flowers on the grave annually.
The model railroad world has changed over the past few decades, and S Scale has
to change also to survive.
There's nothing wrong with folks who want the ultimate in scale accuracy, but
those folks are not the providence of S Scale alone.
Which would be preferable to enter S, 20 new American Flyer hirailers, 10
average scale models or 1 uber-scale modeler?
(Trick question, the answer is all 31...)
