An important difference between A F and Lionel O-27 is A F has broader
curves. There is no need to go to such extremes of swinging diesel pilots
and dual motors for compensation of very sharp turns. I am sure >many< SHS
locos spend their time running just fine on A F track with fixed pilots etc.

 

If only this info could get to the correct designers for future items. What
works and is necessary for O-27 does not apply to S even for Hi Rail use.
