OK..

Every diesel we could ever imagine in S has been made in HO -- without swinging pilots. Where is this "extra" clearance space that HO has that S and larger does not have? Their standard tightest turn was 18" - not that many are using that now.

Math and me are not best friends - trying to equate 18" HO radius to S AF standard radius.

Think the post was comparing against Lionel O trains and not HO. The Lionel O-27 track has a radius of 13.5" - that would be equal to 10.1" in S or 7.4" in HO - way too small for anything but maybe a small trolley. The standard HO 18" curve would be like a 32.6" curve in O or O-65 in their terms... which is larger than what Lionel considers large radius - O-54. Hence the need to very sharp turning mechs in the Lionel O stuff.

Take care
