Hi Tom! Thanks for your interest.
I doubt much has been done since my last photo of it I posted. I'm stalled out over something... can't remember what. Unfortunately, I took both of my modified AM Baldwin's to display at a Frisco gathering last fall, and lo... when I got home some of the grabs have fallen off one of them and I can't find them for the life of me. I detest having to redo something. I'm in deep trouble on my model railroading. I still have a passing interest in it, and I certainly like my friends from among it (some are nearly life-long), but I'm having difficulty getting motivated to do anything with any of my model RR mediums. This includes S scale, toy-trains via Postwar Lionel, and even my computer modeling via V scale. I think it makes a difference when you do it for a living. (For example, I have to work a night job tonight. I'll be leaving in about an hour.) When I have time to invest in a hobby interest, I typically devote it to my other interests, mainly motorcycling, both on road and off road. It's been some time since you posted photos of your Baldwin switcher. Have you completed the work on that yet? It would be great to view additional photos of the finished product. Good to see you're still making progress on the Shabbona! That yard makes my 12th St. industrial yard look tiny. Of course, my layout is tiny. Of such is life. Thought for the day: boB spelled backwards is Bob. I have just uploaded a series of photos illustrating the changes I made to the West end of Terminal District, starting with: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/S-Scale/photos/album/1775582643/pic/1322270818/view?picmode=large&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&dir=asc The ground throw for the spring switch is an old Aristo-Craft unit that is no doubt older (c. 1961) than Bill Lane, and maybe a few others on the list. I painted the "Normal" position white with a black "S" to indicate the switch is a spring switch and in normal run-through position, while the red indicates it is reversed for an unsprung diverging move. More to do, but for now, it works. boB Nicholson ________________________________________ --- In [email protected], "shabbona_rr" <user141771@...> wrote: > > I'm happy to report that North 1 is now in service as a receiving track for inbound freight trains. Tests revealed that the spring switch works as intended, as does the manual override. Pretty neat, to watch a locomotive pass through the sprung switch points from the diverging route, then reverse direction and proceed up the straight route without throwing the switch. > > Next will be a common ground feeder to the North Main, due to the length of the unbroken common ground rail through North 1. > > Also, the remote ground throw mechanisms for the previously mentioned Back Lead and West end Pass switches that diverge from the West end of the North Main are still in the works. I'm not sure how soon I'll get those installed. I've got some other things to do before I go back to Iowa City on the 30th to ascertain that I qualify for the bone butcher. > > After that, at any time, I expect my life to take a [temporary, I hope] drastic turn for a few months that may put a serious damper on model railroad activity, or anything else, for that matter. > > boB Nicholson _______________________________________________ > > > --- In [email protected], "shabbona_rr" <user141771@> wrote: > > > > The spring switch from the West end of North 1 to the North Main is now installed and operational. The point spring mechanism and the manual override (to manually line the switch for reverse moves through the diverging route) work as intended. The only thing left to do is re-install about six feet of North 1 and make the proper (this time!) electrical connections. > > > > > > boB Nicholson _____________________________________________________ > > > ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
