Sorry Bill, I have fairly large layout and it still runs on DC with the help of many electrical blocks.
Matter of fact the Jefferson Central operates off of two DC power packs, allowing up to 4 modelers to run trains at one time. Problem is when I go under there to resolve a problem, it can be very confusing. Help! Mainly because, I, with the help of Rich Barth [Electrical Engineer degree] built this system 15-20 years ago. Yes, I've have offers to come in and "gut it out" rewire, and run DCC, but at age 82 and several dozen locomotives, do I want to do that? Some think I can just hook up DCC with the existing wiring. I think not! Meanwhile, my trains run as good as most on this Yahoo S List who have a layout. It's rather insulting to have other layouts recognized and not mine, or Frank Titman's, and many other DC layouts that have been in S Scale for many years. Sure we would love to start over! Heck Yes, I'd love to be 50 years of age again and know what I know today about model railroading [and other things]. Heck, I'd switch to O gauge like great S Scale modeler Joe Scales did years ago, they have so much more to offer and believe me in O gauge (or in tinplate) you don't worry about keeping the trains on the track.
