Carey,
There are many resources on-line and an excellent book by Douglas E. Walsh
entitled Do It Yourself Vacuum Forming for the Hobbyist.
Mine is a simple box and frame sized to use 6" x 12" Evergreen styrene sheets.
It's powered by an Electrolux that I bought new in 1963. I heat the material in
my kitchen oven.
I will be presenting a clinic on vacuum forming at the 2016 Narrow Gauge
Convention. In the meantime, I will put up a page on my website in the next
week or two.

Where would you learn to do something like that?

I just bought a vacuum pump to do some AC repairs but have no idea how
to use it for modeling.

thanks
