  hi Carey,  I don't know the details of using it but I know vacuum forming can 
be a way to get cars built. The rotary coal car( Minton 1941) in my "dave's 
stuff" photo album was made by vacuum forming. The guy made a whole train of 
them for the old Chicago Museum of industry and technology O scale layout. I 
guess the vacuum formed body and a few add on metal parts like ladders and 
steps was an easy way to get a lot of the cars built fast.....DaveBranum
