I see that I sort of misstated. My point was quantity, not quality. The
(few) S scale layouts that I see in magazines are considerably outside my
envelope to create. And I am only judging quantity by what I see or don¹t
see in these parts. Kansas City has the nation¹s second-largest rail
terminal still standing, prototype freight traffic is second only to Chicago
and we have bunches of model train enthusiasts, mostly in other scales. From
what I have seen up close and personal, the ratio of train fans here to S
scale layouts is not what one might expect, given our numbers and 1:1
activity.

But precious little in the way of honest-to-goodness S scale layouts.
Extrapolate this out to the country at large and the result may be
different. Photographs and good story angles don¹t just come out of thin
air. Somebody has to come up with a concept, write about it in an engaging,
informative and literate manner, and somehow get it shot with quality.

Roy, whose S scale layout is still mostly in his alleged mind, Inman :)

Oh, I don't know...

If you take a look at the photo below Roger's in the August MR, it's pretty
darn uninspired, if not sloppy. The Kato N Scale Mikado is straight from
the box and doesn't even have it's handrails installed.

I know pretty much all the guys here can do better than that with what they
got.

difficulty is that they are very particular about the quality of the photos, but
that's why I enjoy their magazine so much. They are not so fussy about
"Trackside Photos". Still, I submitted this one last July, so plan on a long
wait!
