MTH's DCC has DCC compatibility built in.  My MTH O Gauge GE Evo Hybrid 
locomotive that has a switch for DCS/DCC.

And I wouldn't be suprised if you see DCC compatibility coming from Lionel.  
Lionel's already done more to attact the S Scaler with scale wheels and Kadee 
coupler pads than they done to attract the O Scaler.

And hasn't there been a faction of S crying out for modern stuff?
