Hi Bill, I was thinking about this problem a while back. One of the layout
designs I was considering is an S scale version of the Harlem transfer river
front terminal which would require benchwork about 6 feet wide. The Harlem
transfer is all one prototypical scene all the way across the benchwork so
scenic dividers in the middle wouldn't work which made me wonder about that
"edge of the world" syndrome when looking across the layout. I was planning to
build the layout high enough to give a low angle looking across the scene view
so I was considering just painting a distant New york city scene on the walls
across the aisles from the layout so there would be some kind of end to the
view. I also thought that I might have to add temporary backdrop to the edge of
the layout for certain photo shots if the aisle was too apparent in photos.
Someday I might still build the Harlem transfer if I move to a smaller house
and can't build a larger layout and if that happens I think figuring out this
problem will be interesting.....DaveBranum
