I doubt you will ever see an era where you will always find a particular high
fidelity staple model item on the shop shelf. > In the meantime, lets just
hope that MTH and Flyonel find it profitable to make high fidelity S products
and that the variety of products increases
Hi Bill, I've built lots of those old athearn kits and still like them. I
recently bought about a dozen or so 57 foot mechanical reefers just because
they have some neat paint schemes, a rolling history of the PFE to SPFE/UPFE to
ARMN transition of the refeer car fleet. That's what makes HO such a tough
competitor to the other scales,I paid somewhere between $5-$10 per car
depending on the desirability and quality of assembly but still can't buy one
57 foot plastic reefer in S scale at any price.
Ebay has turned into the defacto hobby shop for the nation. If it's been made
it will show up on there sooner or later. A search of the HO listings versus a
search of the S listings is very telling. Pages and pages of HO scale equipment
in all era's qualities, and price ranges and very few S scale listings but
tons of flyer stuff ( who keeps buying those same old N&W hoppers or T&P gons
over and over anyway?)If MTH and Lionel do make some scale products it can only
help the situation so I'm waiting with high hopes....DaveBranum
