Thanks for the kind words, however except for the cover it's not my photography. Don Heimberger stopped in during the Sn3 Symposium a few years ago. Everything was shot in a few minutes with a little point and shoot camera. I haven't seen the issue yet either, and I don't know if I'll get a 'freebie' or not. I usually purchase a few issues per year but I haven't been a subscriber for several years.

One thing I am discovering is that it's difficult to make an accurate drawing/track-plan without a great deal of effort if the layout is half-way complicated. Mine was done many years ago, but I had made numerous changes to it. It had to be updated. Also it doesn't take long to get very complicated when adding structures and major geographical features. A couple of years ago I shot a wonderful Pennsy HO layout. My good friend and fellow S Scaler Rusty Paulus helped in making the track-plan drawings. He had been a professional draftsman, but it still took two entire days at the layout just taking measurements and many additional hours at the drafting board. Obviously this was a complicated double deck layout with some HO3 EBT added to further confuse things. It's supposed to appear in MR during this coming year.

Bob has the feature article in this months “S Gaugian”. It’s his classic “Great Plains Northern Terminal Railroad”, and of course the photography is super! Well worth the cost of the magazine.

Roy and All,

I haven't received my issue yet, but if you go back at least 2-3 years on this list, I had suggested devoting one Dispatch issue to featuring layouts, owners and our suppliers. The idea to replace past brochures entitled "This is S" that quickly out-date themselves, with something that is new and fresh annually, plus feature the depth of the final layouts and their owners, makes for a good promotions effort. Additionally we can publish our 'best' outside of the publication schedules of the major magazines and their reduced page count. Case in point, I've begun working on a layout that I'm told--'don't even worry about shooting until sometime in 2013"--we're booked up.

I'm glad it finally happened, as Jeff and I had talked briefly about it a time or two in the past. Since I haven't seen it, I can't comment about the quality of the photography. I have a tough time trying to convince customers that digital photography is really just a faster and easier way to to produce an image--making it better or even equal to traditional means is the question. How that image is created is still up to the guy with the camera and what he's willing to put into the project. Just like anything else--nothing in, nothing out!

It's not easy to put one of these together as I'm sure the dismal results of the RMC promotion piece shows.

It was good to see some layouts that are different from the ones we see so much of. A good variety of layouts is important in promoting S to the masses. Overall, I liked the issue, but I would like to see a little better photography if we're to use such pubs for promotion.

Also, thanks to Bill Fraley for his article on Frank Titman. HO has John Allen and Allen McClelland, but Frank is our very own legend.
