I have S-Helper 30" 30 degree radius sectional track for my outside loop and my 
American Models heavywieghts still have a little overhange. Anything above that 
would look more prototypical if you have room which I don't have. Inside loop 
could be hidden by cars on the outer loop.I don't run mine on anything less 
than stated above.

A major factor is whether we build our layouts for operations or for 
railfaning. However, John Armstrong suggested that we could get away with 
tigher curves if they were viewed from the inside of the curve. Curves viewed 
from the outside of the curve are worst offenders.
