I'll find out when my Shay arrives to see if it'll reach escape velocity... I
know it'll at least have Tsunami sound.
As far as your other comments:
The U33C, SD70's Y3's, Challengers, even the earlier Mikado's and Pacific's all
have a switch that turns off the smoke. Turn it off, no smoke. It's that
simple. No muss, no fuss. That's what I do.
Need I remind you that all AM steam AND the former SHS 2-8-0 have smoke? Scale
or HiRail, it makes no difference. It's there. AM steam even has a mechanical
"Choo-Choo" sound...
I seem to recall Don T. once mentioning that deleting the smoke from the 2-8-0
wouldn't have effected the price significantly.
First run U33C's run a little fast, but are hardly uncontrollable. Lionel has
since changed their gear ratio to slow the locomotives down. Tell me that this
is a bad thing. Never mind, someone else here is upset about that.
I'll grant you the annoying crew talk. It's foamer fantasy talk. I can't stand
it.
The scale wheeled Lionel/Flyer U33C's and SD70's don't have traction tires and
I seriously doubt that Fred is putting them on on his Y3 conversions.
And, Flyer minimum radius is 20" give or take, not 6" radius. Deal with it.
I'm told that locomotives that run on 20" radius also run rather well and look
better on larger radii.
You're very fond of making assumptions about the SD70's operational qualities.
I've seen a production unit operate and I can quite frankly tell you are wrong.
It may not suit you, but it will suit 99% of the S Scalers out there.

That's a little overly dramatic, isn't it?
