Actually, the new 60 Ton, Class C Shays from PBL have a ESU Loksound V4.0 Select decoder, supposedly specially produced for PBL by ESU. That's what the instruction sheet that came with my first one yesterday says. (Per a phone conversion with Keren, Jimmy and Bill recorded some Shay sounds at the Roaring Camp & Big Trees tourist railroad in Felton, CA.) IMHO, based on my initial impressions, it sounds better than the earlier 55 Ton, Class B Shays with the Tsunami. I did do a brief side-by-side comparison.
Test ran it yesterday back and forth on some dual gauge track (S/Sn3) in my staging yard area. I've been back to laying track and had to clean off some tools, so that I didn't accidently short anything out. Chuff synch on a Shay is an issue. The gearing can vary, but if the gearing is 2.1 between the line shaft and the wheels, with three cylinders you need 12.6 chuffs per wheel revolution and with 32" wheels that's something over 11 chuffs per second at 5 MPH. I know it'll at least have Tsunami sound. Rich G(ajnak) ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
