Dave....

American Models offers a so-called "slow speed" worm which reduces speed by 50% 
on their diesels.  The same exact worm works with all AM diesels according to 
Ron.  It must be ordered separately and costs about $6 plus postage.  I use 
them on every AM diesel I have and love it.  Everything is realistically slower 
and smoother than the standard faster gearing.  It is very easy for the typical 
modeler to make the change to the "slow speed" gear.  

To the best of my knowledge, SHS had only one gear option available, but it was 
designed to run at a very nice realistic speed in the first place.  There was 
no need for SHS to have had additional gear options.
