I recently attended the Savannah Prototype Modeler's Meet. I was blown away by
the high degree of craftsmanship exhibited by the models on display. These
modelers know that no matter what scale they are in, that manufacturers are not
going to faithfully reproduce every item of equipment. they might want and are
quite willing to scratch build or modify kits or RTR models to create the
degree of detail they demand.
I displayed my portable switching layout, the Calabash Terminal Rail road, and
most attendees were quite interested to see the operating possibilities of S in
a limited space, and recognized the potential for modeling in S. Not one
person there said "Oh, I thought S was only toy trains." Among serious scale
modelers there does not seem to be any confusion that there are scale models
in S. So lets drop the" AF and high rail hurt scale S" and get on with serious
modeling. I think that anyone who gives you the "S is only American Flyer" is
just yanking your chain.
There were a total of four attendee who modeled in S.
