  Hi Ed, I think the definitions are still the same, there's just some new 
modelers that don't understand them or don't seem interested in learning them. 
I see no reason to change the definitions when they are not broken. Lionel has 
used their unique version of "scale" since around 1930 but what Lionel calls 
their trains is irrelevant to most modelers. I've had to deal with Lionel in O 
scale for many years so  I'm more interested in what they make than what they 
call it. If it looks promising I'll buy it then make it scale in the broader 
modeling sense no matter if Lionel called it scale or traditional or standard 
or whatever. MTH is about the same animal, they make premier stuff thats often 
good, Railking stuff that usually short but sometimes is actually scale 
dimensions. O three rail is just about the same function wise as S highrail, if 
it's proper size it just needs new wheels and couplers and maybe a few details 
to be scale enough :>) ........DaveBranum
