 Malb, my wrapper provides support for the shifts, you can just copy it
 from there.

 I think keeping a generic implementation in the Polynomial_template class,
 and overriding it if there is support for faster methods is good enough.
 Though maybe separating the user interface and functionality into 2
 different functions (e.g. shift_left(), _shift_left_c()) might be better,
 so that the user interface and docstrings are consistent for subclasses.
