Rather than inheriting from `dict`, I think it makes more sense to inherit
from `collections.Mapping` since we only want read functionality. I
uploaded a patch that does this, and uses the current dictionary format in
the background (I don't see a good alternative to this storage method, but
I'm open to suggestions).
