 I disagree, its a drain on the development process to try to support
 nonsensical combinations without any benefit. Some user will fall into the
 spike-filled traps and then complain (rightfully) why some combination of
 envionment variables causes everything to crash and burn.

 We should have called it `SAGE_INSTALL_GCC`. The compilerwrapper was also
 originally called gccwrapper until somebody on this ticket pointed out the
 stupidity of it.

 no wrapper installed then create symlinks.

 Then, later, you install the compilerwrapper. Even later you disable the
 wrapper. Bang, your compiler is now gone. I'm sure this will be a crowd-
 pleaser.
