 Thank you very much!

By the way, I meanwhile learned that it is not needed to start spkg-check
manually. Probably the easiest way to test the package is to do
{{{export SAGE_CHECK=1}}} before installing the package, since spkg-check
 will then be started automatically.

So, according to reports of David Joyner, William Stein and myself, we
currently have install tests pass on
  - Amd64, Ubuntu 9.0.4
  - AMD Athlon 64 3700+, openSUSE 10.2
  - Dual Core AMD Opteron 270, openSUSE 10.2
  - Intel Core Duo, openSUSE 11.0
  - Intel X7460, Ubuntu 8.04.2 (this is sage.math)
  - PowerPC, OS X 10.4
and I understood that William is currently doing further tests.

The previous version used to work on your Macbook, you said. Does the new
 version as well?

Has anybody tried it under Windows (I mean, via a virtual machine) yet? I
 have no Windows machine handy.

I expected far more installation problems. The portability is, I guess,
mainly due to distutils. So, kudos to whoever developed distutils!
