No, this is definitely not acceptable. For real work it could easily mean
people's programs are 4 times slower due to this upgrade. It's important
to understand that the use case of pexpect by Sage is massively different
than the use case of pexpect for absolutely everybody else -- for them
some latency issues are no big deal, but for us they are.
Incidentally, I think there is no caching going on despite what %timeit
says...
