PARI must have exhibited some bugs. The question is how/why/if this is
still needed.

The answer is at #7092: because of a failure to build pari with gcc-4.4.1
as distributed by Fedora 11, on ALL Linux systems the OPTFLAG is set to
-O1 instead of -O3. Is there not a way to detect that particular
compiler-distro combination? Otherwise all Linux users suffer!
