 Also passed {{{ptestlong}}} on Fedora 13 x86 (Pentium 4 Prescott), with
 and without optimization (i.e. {{{O2}}} in "global" {{{CFLAGS}}}), native
 code.

 The version prior to this, i.e. without William's patches (but John's
 reviewer patch), passed all long tests on Ubuntu 7.10 x86 (Pentium 4, gcc
 4.2.1, native code, O2), too.
