It just encourages people to write non-portable code. So they write non-
portable code for Sage, then if they write code for other projects, they
do the same there. At least Sage being cross-platform encourages
developers to think about portability. I'm sure it has contributed to the
education of many.
BTW, I don't see the need to copy the readline files to $SAGE_LOCAL - why
not create links? It saves disk space and CPU cycles.
