 The third error boils down to:

 Without patch
 {{{
 sage: x = -sqrt(2)-1/5*I
 sage: x*x
 1/25*(5*sqrt(2) + I)^2
 }}}
 With patch
 {{{
 sage: x = -sqrt(2)-1/5*I
 sage: x*x
 1/25*(-5*sqrt(2) - I)^2
 }}}

 The segfault in the second doctest problem also comes from multiplication
 of symbolic expressions. And the example above indicates that it is
 related with pulling common factors out of a list of expressions.
