The purpose of this ticket is explicit: Speed. I must admit that the code
by which I obtain speed is sometimes a bit messy, specifically in
`is_subcategory`, where I introduce additional special cases in a method
that should be fairly generic.
There is a follow-up ticket #11943 that is concerned with consistency of
the category graph. Question: Is it ok to keep the messy code from here
and leave cleaning of `is_subcategory` to #11943?
