I think the ideas stated in my previous post are too radical.
But it seems that many of the errors can be fixed by using base classes as
one should. For example, both Laurent polynomial and Laurent series rings
inherit from `CommutativeRing`, but they only call the `__init__` method
of `ParentWithBase`.
I'll see how far this works...
