I believe using ldconfig is ok. But one has to make sure that /sbin is in
$PATH before calling ldconfig. Otherwise installing the package will fail
on systems like Gentoo Linux where ldconfig is in /sbin and this directory
is not in $PATH by default. Suse Linux systems also have such a
configuration.
