Dear Albert,

Nice reading your article. In fact, what you have pointed out is so much true.
People tend to forget easily and so much goes on about Saligao and its history
and people's love for Goa and all that nonsense. I suppose you have to be
connected in order to be recognized.

Regards to your family,

Merwyn

Subject: [SALIGAONET] People of Saligao

 Dear Saligaonkars
When I was residing in Saligao I used to organise konkani Tiatrs on the church
stage. I gave chance to many young people who had never been to the stage.. I
had all the co operation of our saligao dynamic artists as well as from the
church Navhind times always gave the short write up thanks to Ormel Tipri from
casa Tipri who did this on his own. r. There were many other people who took
active interest in my tiatr. One was Late Julie Azavedo who not only allowed us
to us her house but used to be a dynamic critic. . The second person was one
Sebestian de Souza from Muddavaddi. He was popularly called Tallo who would be
in the prime seat at the time of rehearsal ,would help us in correcting the
cantos of the tiatrs, help us with side songs. He had written a big book of
songs which he would give to our artist and train them. The first person to
help
me stage my first show at the church stage was Fr.Simplicio Fernandes the
brother of present vicar of saligao. I cannot forget Fr. Valladares and also
Mr.Everest Fernandes.. We had great artists. Francis Maedeus Lobo, Emy
Sequeira,
Dominic Picky, Late Roque, Pricilla Sequeira, Anton Ruzai Paes, Luis De Mello,
Thomas Andrade. Merwin Franco, His parents , Fiona Dias and above all Sambu
Bau
Bandekar etc. But there were others who were back stage like Luis domingo Dias
and Santos who saw to the setting of the stage and prompting. I remember one or
two times our great scribe Daniel De souza singing a solo or two. With my
artist
encouragement I was able to put up a tiatr in 1984 at the Kala Acdemy tiatr
competition and got second prize. Francis lobo and Emy Sequeira got best actor
actress award. It was our first attempt and we did it. But what is hurting me
is
people who are great journalist do not feel to mention our names in any of
their
writings. I got the second prize from Goa academy for my tiatr Mummy maka
vengent dor.I had presented the script for the competition and stood second.
The
same tiatr was staged in London by our goan group. Our saligaokar in London
acted in this tiatr. Do you know who she is ? Ida de Souza. She once lived in
the house where presently Orlinda Sequeira lives. (Sonarbhatt, three houses
from
mine) They had three four shows and brought out a DVD.I do not think any one
from saligao know about this. Many of our great scribes who are aware of my work
are hesitant to mention in their great writings .
