Being punctual shows common courtesy and respect to others. It is especially important in cases of events, as programs have been chalked out and on account of non punctuality of some the full event goes topsy turvy. It is much better to arrive a few minutes early, to allow yourself to chat with others/socialize, and then get ready for the show.
