Hi Max and Maxwell, For starters...anyone who knows me (and my family, especially my dad!) would know that 'chalta hai' just did not exist in our family vocabulary. So, while I have a perfect understanding of and respect for punctuality; my concerns are around making people feel obligated to be on time at a social event. And incidentally, Max, I do attend quite a few social events where I live ( including dinner-dances, picnics, etc.) And while I am not always dead on time for all of them, I go out and have a great time nonetheless. I think what really irked me about the Saligao Social notice was the line '6:00 pm does not mean 6:30 pm'. I think most people already know the difference between the 2 and do not have to be educated about the same. While I do admit that a social event does require a show of attendees in order to be a success; by the same token, the event should be able to proceed, regardless, as the vast majority usually show up somewhat 'on time'. The organizing committee should outline the program for the public ( unless it's meant to be a big surprise!) and those who are not able to make it on time, face the consequences of their tardiness ie. They miss out! In my opinion, that's the way it should be. But opinions differ, as we all know, and each one is entitled to their own. As far as I'm concerned I've made myself clear on this topic, from the perspective of an attendee at a social event, and I will not be making any further comments.
