Dear Peter
i've changed the subject line to better reflect the topic.
regarding the voting card - frequent revisions are being done often.
officials visit house to house to verify the occupants and see, if the
occupant is not found - they delete the name if no one comes forward for
a short while. since you come only for a short vacation - it is possible
the timing of your visit did not co-incide with the visit of the official.
however - one can always get a voting card issued and get your name on
the roll - its open on all working days at the mamladars office. you can
just use your passport as proof and get it! they work quiet fast now -
this administration. I know my wifes card got transfered in just 2
days!. a friends card from aldona was made in 4 days flat!
not to sure about the procedure to get a ration card - though I do know
that this is being done at the mamladars office - and there are no
deletions / revisions that happen unless they have been told. as an
example - we recently started using our ration card just a few months
back, and realised that my brothers name was on it - even though hes not
a resident of India. we had to give an application and they deleted his
name from the card at the local ration office itself!!!!! - all in just
a few hours.
kind regards
Ashley

I fully agree with the comments made by Annette,
I was born and brought up in Saligao and our ancestral houses (cluster
of six houses of Costa's) must have been built in 17th or 18th century
as per the property papers handwritten in Portuguese. I have these
docs with me. I too have studied at Lourdes convent school, Saligao.
When I came to Gulf my Ration card was cancelled and even my name from
the voting list was deleted by the local authorities and I don't know
on what basis. I visit India twice a year on vacation. As I am
holding Indian Passport I should have a voting right as per the Indian
Constitution. Being a Niz Goemkar I have no voting rights in my own
country. Without ration card I cannot apply for any benefits. So
virtually I have become a non-Goan and non-Goans are freely being
issued ration cards and their names appear on the voting list in Goa.
Correct me if I am wrong.??
Incredible GOA-INDIA.
