Jim,

I had a non-web solution that ending up being similar to Brent's, but I
question the dedication of the next shift---- if they need a prompt to check
for latest status since they are relieving the previous techs, what are they
doing in IT support anyway ??? How about their first task being to check
the web page status that Brent is referencing ?? Or, just review the GUI for
SA ??

Long-time IT support (and sleep deprived), John

Any way to use this to determine the specific device that's down?

Unfortunately,

They say when you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Well, I'm an
ASP programmer, so to me, everything looks like I can solve it with a web
page check. This is one of those times.

Set up a URL check on your SA web page, or on SA's built-in web server on
port 4310. Look for the word "DOWN".

Only schedule this check for the hours of shift changes. For example, if
you change shifts at 7am and 5pm, then only run this check at 7-8am and
5-6pm. That way, you'll always alert people at the shift change if
something's down.

If that doesn't make sense, or if you need me to elaborate on it, let me
know.
